Denholm Mitchell Elliott, born on 31 May 1922 in London, was a British actor who, over four decades, became one of the defining character actors in English-language cinema and theatre. With his distinctive features and ability to imbue complex supporting roles with depth and dignity, Denholm Elliott became an indispensable part of numerous film productions.
Elliott achieved his breakthrough in the 1950s with roles in British films and television productions. In the following decades, he established himself as a sought-after supporting actor who often portrayed distinguished yet also dubious characters. Denholm Elliott gained international recognition through his role as Marcus Brody in "Raiders of the Lost Ark" (1981) and "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" (1989) alongside Harrison Ford. Other significant appearances included "Trading Places" (1983) with Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd, as well as "A Room with a View" (1985), for which he received a BAFTA Award.
