Imelda Mary Philomena Bernadette Staunton was born on 9 January 1956 in London and is considered one of the most distinguished British actresses of her generation. She works in theatre as well as film and television and has received multiple awards for her versatile performances.
Imelda Staunton began her career in the 1980s in theatre and quickly established herself as an outstanding performer in London's West End. She gained international recognition for her role as Dolores Umbridge in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" (2005) and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" (2010-2011), where she portrayed the authoritarian Ministry official with remarkable intensity. For her leading role in "Vera Drake" (2004) by Mike Leigh, Imelda Staunton received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress as well as numerous other honours. She appeared in films such as "Nanny McPhee" (2005), "Maleficent" (2014) and lent her voice to the Mayor in "Paddington" (2014) and "Paddington 2" (2017).
Imelda Staunton garnered particular attention for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in the fifth and sixth seasons of the Netflix series "The Crown" (2022-2023), for which she was awarded an Emmy. She is married to actor Jim Carter and was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2016.
