Jeff Daniels

Jeff Daniels was born on February 19, 1955, in Athens, Georgia, and works as an actor, screenwriter, and musician. He grew up in Michigan and first made a name for himself in theater before achieving success on screen in the 1980s.

Jeff Daniels had his breakthrough in 1985 alongside Mia Farrow in Woody Allen's "The Purple Rose of Cairo." In the following years, he established himself in both dramatic and comedic roles. He became particularly well known for the comedy "Dumb and Dumber" (1994), in which he starred brilliantly alongside Jim Carrey. His other important films include "Gettysburg" (1993), "Speed" (1994), and "The Squid and the Whale" (2005), for which he received several critics' awards.

Jeff Daniels reached a career highlight with the lead role in the HBO series "The Newsroom" (2012-2014), for which he won the Emmy for Best Lead Actor in 2013. Other significant works include "Steve Jobs" (2015) and "The Martian" (2015). Jeff Daniels is also active as a theater writer and director and runs the Purple Rose Theatre Company in Michigan.
