Melissa McCarthy

Melissa McCarthy was born on August 26, 1970, in Plainfield, Illinois, and works as an actress, comedian, and producer. She began her career in the 1990s with smaller film and television roles and first became known to a wider audience through the cult series "Gilmore Girls" (2000-2007), in which she portrayed the likeable chef Sookie St. James.

Melissa McCarthy achieved her international breakthrough as a comedy star in 2011 with "Bridesmaids," for which she received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Subsequently, she established herself as one of Hollywood's most successful comediennes. Her best-known films include "Identity Thief" (2013), "The Heat" (2013) alongside Sandra Bullock, "Tammy" (2014), "Spy" (2015), and "Ghostbusters" (2016). Melissa McCarthy also demonstrated her comedic timing in "Can You Ever Forgive Me?" (2018), for which she was once again nominated for an Oscar, this time in a leading role.
