Before Johannes Steck became an actor and voice artist, he trained as a theatrical painter. He assumed he would one day make a living from painting – and today he does indeed paint professionally, though not with colours and brushes, but with words. Since the 1990s, he has been working as a professional voice artist and quickly developed a wide-ranging repertoire. He is known to a broad audience as the audiobook narrator of numerous renowned titles, including many novels by Simon Beckett, Ken Follett, John Irving and Markus Heitz, as well as several instalments of the "Die drei ??? Kids" series. In the advertising sector, he has delivered compelling performances for campaigns including BMW, Babbel, Senseo, Marco Polo and Laura Biagotti. He is also the voice of the Kaltenberg Knights' Tournament, the regular trailer voice for Kabel 1 and DMAX, and frequently heard in documentaries for ZDF, Bayerischer Rundfunk and Sky.
