“Schwarzes Terrain” – Marcus Fauser

Born in Nürtingen in 1979, the artist Marcus Fauser studied fine art and sculpture at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart. While still a student, he went to the Normal University in Shanghai as assistant to Matthias Kunisch. Marcus Fauser has been living and working in Berlin for more than 10 years. Even so, the exhibition "Schwarzes Terrain" at our premises will be his first solo exhibition in the capital.

Articles about his work have often called Marcus Fauser an alchemist. But what does the ancient study of substances and their reactions, as a precursor of modern natural science, have to do with Fauser's art? Perhaps Marcus Fauser is an alchemist because he experiments with materials not scientifically but in a way driven purely by curiosity and just as tireless, provoking them into reactions and preserving this process in his paintings. Oil paint, acrylic varnish, coffee and pigments are spread, react, are scraped away. What remains is the essence, the result of mixing and repulsion, of chance and plan.

Marcus Fauser will show more than 250 of these works in the exhibition "Schwarzes Terrain". As an installation, he will let the paintings interact with the space. The individual works are pixels which in turn create an image – a meta-level of the actual work, as it were.

After "Cognitive Shuffle" by the artist Thomas Platt, this second "Loft-Kultur" exhibition will again be open to the public. From 5 February 2018 to 14 September 2018, you are cordially invited to visit the exhibition Monday to Friday from 11 am to 5 pm.
