John Christopher Depp II was born on June 9, 1963, in Owensboro, Kentucky (USA). Depp gained international recognition as an actor in the late 1980s through his role as Officer Tom Hanson in the American television series '21 Jump Street'.
In the early 1990s, further prominent roles followed, such as the character of Edward in 'Edward Scissorhands' directed by Tim Burton, or the role of Donnie Brasco (Joseph D. 'Joe' Pistone) in 'Donnie Brasco' directed by Mike Newell.
In the early 2000s, Johnny Depp played what is probably one of his most famous roles: As the pirate Captain Jack Sparrow, Johnny Depp appeared in all five instalments of the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' film series. In August 2010, he topped the 'Forbes Magazine' list as the highest-paid actor in Hollywood.
Johnny Depp has been nominated for Best Actor a total of nine times for the Golden Globe and three times for the Oscar. Of these, he won one Golden Globe for his role as Benjamin Barker (Sweeney Todd) in 'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street' directed by Tim Burton.
Since the film 'Don Juan DeMarco' in 1995, Johnny Depp has been voiced in the German-language film versions by Berlin-based dubbing artist David Nathan, with few exceptions. David Nathan also provides the German dubbing voices for Christian Bale and Paul Walker, among others.
