Tzi Ma is an American actor of Chinese descent, born on June 10, 1962, in Hong Kong. He is considered one of the most versatile Asian-American actors in Hollywood and has appeared in numerous film and television productions.
Tzi Ma began his acting career in the 1980s with guest appearances in well-known television series. He achieved his breakthrough in the 1990s with roles in films such as "Rapid Fire" (1992) alongside Brandon Lee. This was followed by defining performances in "The Quiet American" (2002) with Michael Caine, as well as in "Rush Hour" (1998) and "Rush Hour 3" (2007), where he portrayed Ambassador Han. Tzi Ma has collaborated with directors such as Ang Lee and appeared in "Arrival" (2016). He has also taken on distinctive roles in television series including "24" and "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."
Tzi Ma received particular attention for his portrayal of Hua Zhou, the father of the title character, in Disney's live-action adaptation "Mulan" (2020). In James Cameron's "Avatar: The Way of Water" (2022), Tzi Ma embodied the Tonowari clan leader.
