Benoît Poelvoorde was born on September 22, 1964, in Namur, Belgium, and works as an actor, screenwriter, and director. The Belgian comedian is one of the most renowned Francophone actors in Europe and has made a name for himself internationally with his distinctive humor and intense acting style.
Benoît Poelvoorde achieved his breakthrough in 1992 with the mockumentary film "C'est arrivé près de chez vous" (Man Bites Dog), which he co-wrote and in which he played a serial killer. The controversial black-and-white film was celebrated at numerous festivals and brought him his first international attention. In the following years, Benoît Poelvoorde established himself in French cinema with comedies such as "Le Boulet" (2002) and "Podium" (2004), in which he portrayed an ABBA impersonator. He demonstrated his versatility across diverse genres, such as in the pitch-black comedy "Aaltra" (2004) or the drama "Cloclo" (2012), where he played French singer Claude François. Benoît Poelvoorde gained international recognition through his role in the comedy "Rien à déclarer" (Nothing to Declare, 2010) by and with Dany Boon. Other outstanding works include "Les Émotifs anonymes" (Romantics Anonymous, 2010), "Le Tout Nouveau Testament" (The Brand New Testament, 2015), and "Au poste!" (Custody, 2018).
