Cheech Marin, born on July 13, 1946 in Los Angeles, California, is an American actor, comedian, and voice actor. He became famous primarily as part of the comedy duo Cheech & Chong, which achieved cult status in the 1970s and 1980s with their anarchic and drug-infused sketches.
Cheech Marin had his breakthrough together with Tommy Chong in films such as "Up in Smoke" (1978), "Cheech & Chong's Next Movie" (1980), and "Nice Dreams" (1981). The films became box office hits and turned the duo into icons of counterculture. After separating from Tommy Chong in the late 1980s, Cheech Marin established himself as a versatile character actor in Hollywood.
He appeared in numerous film productions, including "Born in East L.A." (1987), which he also directed himself, as well as "Tin Cup" (1996) alongside Kevin Costner. Cheech Marin was particularly successful in family films, such as playing police officer Joe Dominguez in the "Spy Kids" series (2001-2003) or in the role of Pancho in "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" (2003). As a voice actor, he lent his distinctive voice to numerous animated films, including "The Lion King" (1994) as Banzai and "Cars" (2006) and its sequels as Ramone.
