John Turturro was born on February 28, 1957, in Brooklyn, New York, and works as an actor, director, and screenwriter. With his distinctive face and intense acting style, he has made a name for himself in Hollywood as a versatile character actor who excels in both independent productions and major studio films.
John Turturro achieved his breakthrough in the late 1980s through his collaboration with the Coen Brothers. In "Miller's Crossing" (1990), he played the nervous gangster Bernie Bernbaum, before taking on the title role of the neurotic screenwriter in "Barton Fink" (1991) - a performance that earned him the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival. His fruitful collaboration with the Coens continued in films such as "The Big Lebowski" (1998), in which John Turturro created a cult figure as the eccentric bowler Jesus Quintana, as well as in "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" (2000).
John Turturro has also worked with directors such as Spike Lee, including in "Do the Right Thing" (1989) and "Clockers" (1995). In the "Transformers" series (2007-2017), he played the role of Agent Seymour Simmons. As a director, he has helmed films including "Illuminata" (1998) and "The Jesus Rolls" (2019), in which he reprised his role from "The Big Lebowski".
