Michael Kirk Douglas was born on September 25, 1944, in New Brunswick, New Jersey (USA). In the 1960s, Michael Douglas trained as an actor and director at the Neighbourhood Playhouse and the American Place Theater in New York.
In 1969, Michael Douglas played his first major role in the film 'Hail, Hero!', for which he received a Golden Globe nomination as Best Newcomer. In 1975, he won an Oscar for Best Picture as producer of 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'. Michael Douglas achieved his breakthrough as an actor with the role of Inspector Steve Keller in the American television series 'The Streets of San Francisco', in which he starred from 1972 to 1977. For his role as Gordon Gekko in the film 'Wall Street', directed by Oliver Stone, Michael Douglas received an Oscar for Best Actor.
In 1997, Michael Douglas was ranked 74th on the list of the '100 Greatest Movie Stars of All Time' in the British edition of Empire Magazine.
