William L. Petersen

William L. Petersen was born on February 21, 1953, in Evanston, Illinois, and works as an actor, producer, and occasional theater director. He became best known for his portrayal of investigator Gil Grissom in the crime series "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (2000-2015), which brought him international recognition.

William L. Petersen achieved his cinema breakthrough in 1985 with the leading role in "To Live and Die in L.A." directed by William Friedkin, in which he played an FBI agent on a quest for revenge. Subsequently, William L. Petersen took on further distinctive roles in productions such as "Manhunter" (1986), in which he went on the hunt for a serial killer as FBI profiler Will Graham. This role already demonstrated his preference for complex, analytical characters that would later shape his work on "CSI" as well.

William L. Petersen reached the peak of his career with the character of Gil Grissom, whom he portrayed over nine seasons and who became an icon of the crime genre. The series developed into a worldwide phenomenon and made William L. Petersen one of the highest-paid television actors of his time. In addition to his acting career, he was involved as Executive Producer on "CSI" and returned to his signature role in 2021 for the sequel series "CSI: Vegas".
