William L. Petersen was born on February 21, 1953, in Evanston, Illinois, and works as an actor, producer, and occasional theater director. He became best known for his portrayal of investigator Gil Grissom in the crime series "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (2000-2015), which brought him international recognition.
William L. Petersen achieved his cinema breakthrough in 1985 with the leading role in "To Live and Die in L.A." directed by William Friedkin, in which he played an FBI agent on a quest for revenge. Subsequently, William L. Petersen took on further distinctive roles in productions such as "Manhunter" (1986), in which he went on the hunt for a serial killer as FBI profiler Will Graham.
