Hugo Weaving

Hugo Weaving was born on 4 April 1960 in Ibadan, Nigeria, and is a British-Australian actor. Growing up in Australia, he completed his acting training at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney and initially established himself in Australian theatre and film.

Hugo Weaving achieved his international breakthrough in 1994 in the drag queen comedy "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert", for which he received multiple awards. He gained worldwide recognition in the late 1990s through his iconic role as Agent Smith in the science fiction trilogy "The Matrix" (1999-2003), in which Hugo Weaving portrayed the coolly calculating antagonist with distinctive precision. Simultaneously, he took on the role of the Elf Elrond in Peter Jackson's monumental "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy (2001-2003) as well as later in "The Hobbit" films (2012-2014).

Hugo Weaving demonstrated his versatility in numerous other productions, including as the mysterious V in "V for Vendetta" (2005), as Red Skull in "Captain America: The First Avenger" (2011), and in ambitious projects such as "Cloud Atlas" (2012). His work with the Wachowskis significantly shaped several career milestones.
