Dustin Hoffman

Dustin Lee Hoffman was born on August 8, 1937 in Los Angeles (USA). Originally, Hoffman wanted to become a pianist and studied music at Santa Monica City College. In 1956, however, he left his studies early to take acting lessons.

In 1967, Dustin Hoffman achieved his breakthrough with the role of Benjamin Braddock in the film The Graduate, directed by Mike Nichols. Dustin Hoffman quickly gained a reputation as a perfectionist who meticulously prepared for his roles. Since the mid-1970s, Hoffman has undoubtedly been one of the leading character actors in American cinema.

Other outstanding films in which Dustin Hoffman appeared include Papillon (1973), directed by Franklin J. Schaffner, Rain Man (1988), and Sleepers (1996), both directed by Barry Levinson.

Overall, Dustin Hoffman has received two Oscars for Best Actor. In 1980, he was honored for his role in Kramer vs. Kramer, and in 1989 for Rain Man. For his leading role in The Graduate, Hoffman received a Golden Globe as Best Newcomer in 1967. He received this award five more times, then as Best Actor.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Dustin Hoffman was dubbed by Manfred Schott for the German film versions. Since his death in a car accident in 1982, Joachim Kerzel has been the German voice of Dustin Hoffman.
