The 14th German Audio Description Award ceremony

Yesterday the German Federation of the Blind and Partially Sighted (DBSV) presented a total of 4 awards for audio-described versions honoured for their outstanding quality. Besides the best audio descriptions for TV and cinema, the Jury's Special Prize and the Audience Award were presented. In the TV category, the Kiel “Tatort” episode “Borowski und der Himmel über Kiel”, produced by NDR, won. The award for the best audio-described version in the cinema category went to the drama “45 Years” from Piffl Filmverleih. The Jury's Special Prize went to the ZDF documentary “Wärst Du lieber tot?”. NDR struck twice that evening: the broadcaster received the Audience Award for the episode “Bestattungsvorsorge” from the series “Der Tatortreiniger”. Congratulations to all the winners! It was a special honour for us to be invited to this gala for the first time. In our view, the special significance of this award lies above all in further strengthening the position of audio-described films and awareness of them. For example, Germany's private TV channels have so far broadcast hardly any films or programmes with audio description. We were also further encouraged to make quality our top priority, without compromise, in our productions of accessible film versions. And of course, next year – for the first time – we'll be submitting a production for this award ourselves!
