Jake Gyllenhaal was born on December 19, 1980, in Los Angeles, California, and works as an actor and film producer. As the son of screenwriter Naomi Foner and director Stephen Gyllenhaal, Jake Gyllenhaal grew up in the film industry and gained his first on-camera experience as a child.
Jake Gyllenhaal achieved his breakthrough in 2001 with the leading role in "Donnie Darko," a disturbing science fiction drama that made him internationally known.
