Tom Cruise was born on July 3, 1962, in Syracuse, New York (USA) and works as a film actor and film producer.

After his debut as a film actor in the US film 'Endless Love' (1981), he achieved his international breakthrough in 1986 with his role as Lieutenant Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell in the action film 'Top Gun', directed by Tony Scott. This film grossed over 340 million dollars (with a production budget of 15 million) and instantly made Tom Cruise the most successful actor in his age group. Films such as 'The Color of Money' (1986) alongside Paul Newman, directed by Martin Scorsese, or the comedy 'Cocktail' in 1988 solidified Tom Cruise's image as a star.

In 1988, Tom Cruise played the role of Charlie Babbitt alongside Dustin Hoffman in the drama 'Rain Man', which was nominated for eight Oscars and for which Dustin Hoffman won the Oscar for Best Actor. For his role as Vietnam veteran Ron Kovic in the film 'Born on the Fourth of July' (1989), directed by Oliver Stone, Tom Cruise received his first Oscar nomination.

In the following years, Tom Cruise appeared in rapid succession in many highly successful films. In 2008, Tom Cruise played the role of Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg in 'Valkyrie'.

Also well known are the five films in the 'Mission: Impossible' series ('Mission: Impossible' (1996), 'Mission: Impossible II' (2000), 'Mission: Impossible III' (2006), 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' (2011), and 'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation' (2015)), in which he portrays Agent Ethan Hunt.

Tom Cruise's German dubbing voice is the Berlin-based actor and director Patrick Winczewski, who is also the main voice of Hugh Grant.
