James Eugene 'Jim' Carrey was born on January 17, 1962, in Newmarket (Ontario, Canada). The Canadian-American actor and comedian first gained widespread recognition through the film 'Ace Ventura: Pet Detective'. Although Carrey was nominated for a Golden Raspberry Award as Worst New Star for this role, the film was a true box office success.
Further successful roles followed. In 1997, he played the role of Fletcher Reede in Tom Shadyac's film 'Liar Liar'. For this role, Jim Carrey was also nominated for a Golden Globe as Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. In 1998, Carrey played the role of Truman Burbank in the film 'The Truman Show'. Just one year later, he achieved his next success with the role of Andy Kaufman in 'Man on the Moon'. For both of these roles, Carrey was awarded a Golden Globe.
