Audio description for a Berlinale competition film

Joseph Beuys was an artist who knew throughout his life how to provoke, but also how to inspire, through his art. He lived from 1921 to 1986 and gained fame far beyond Germany's borders with works such as “7000 Oaks”, “Coyote” and “Felt”.

30 years after his death, the renowned filmmaker Andres Veiel turns his attention to the “man with the hat” and portrays his life in a documentary shown in competition at the “67th Berlin International Film Festival”. With “Beuys”, Andres Veiel succeeds in giving a private look behind the scenes of the famous artist, creating far more than a purely classic portrait.

One special feature is that the audio-described version will already be available via the app GRETA at the world premiere on 14 February. This gives visually impaired and blind people the chance to take part in one of the most important film festivals in the world.

The free app GRETA lets you play an audio-described version in sync with a film in any cinema. All you need is a smartphone and headphones. Once you've chosen a film from the app's database, you just need to download it beforehand. The app synchronises itself automatically with the film's soundtrack.

For several years now, speaker-search has specialised in, among other things, producing audio-described versions of films. This year we're particularly pleased to be nominated for the German Audio Description Award in the “Feature Film” category.
