Great rejoicing in our recording studio: the audio description for the animated film “Where Is Anne Frank”, produced by Kinoblindgänger gGmbH and recorded in our studio, won the German Audio Description Award 2024 in the “Children's and Youth Film” category.
Outstanding achievement in conveying complex narrative levels
In her laudatory speech, actress Lilly Charlotte Dreesen praised the “enormous linguistic skill” of the audio-described version, which gives blind and visually impaired people secure orientation through the film's many narrative layers. The film is characterised by a rapid narrative flow between past and present, reality and fantasy – a challenge which, in the jury's view, the AD team mastered exceptionally well.
A proud team accepts the award
The managing director of Kinoblindgänger gGmbH, Barbara Fickert, accepted the award on stage together with Reno Koppe of farbfilm verleih and producer Yves Kugelmann. Joining them on stage were Susanne Linzer (script), Ralf Krämer (editing), Sascha Gluth (narrator) and Timo Mehrländer (sound engineer).
More accessibility in cinema
Since 2016, Kinoblindgänger gGmbH has used donations and sponsorship money to produce accessible versions of international arthouse films for the German-speaking market, enabling visually and hearing impaired people to participate more fully in society.
This is already the third German Audio Description Award for an audio-described version our studio has been involved in. In 2020 the version of “For Sama” by filmmaker Waad al-Kateab won in the “Documentary” category, and in 2022 the version of Thomas Vinterberg's “Another Round” won in the Cinema category. Both of these productions were also made in collaboration with Kinoblindgänger gGmbH.
