Emily Watson, born January 14, 1967, in London, is a British actress. She is considered one of the outstanding performers of her generation and received an Oscar nomination for her very first major film role.
Emily Watson had her breakthrough in 1996 in Lars von Trier's drama "Breaking the Waves," in which she portrayed the deeply religious Bess. Her haunting performance earned her numerous awards alongside the Oscar nomination and established her as a remarkable character actress. For her role in "Hilary and Jackie" (1998), in which she played cellist Jacqueline du Pré, Watson received her second Academy Award nomination. She demonstrated her versatility in productions such as "Gosford Park" (2001), "Punch-Drunk Love" (2002) alongside Adam Sandler, and "Red Dragon" (2002), where she acted opposite Anthony Hopkins.
Emily Watson also excelled in challenging literary adaptations such as "The Book Thief" (2013) and in the HBO miniseries "Chernobyl" (2019), which earned her an Emmy nomination.
