Sir Anthony Hopkins

Sir Philip Anthony Hopkins was born on 31 December 1937 in Margam, Neath Port Talbot, Wales.

Among his early films that brought him to the attention of audiences as an actor was The Lion in Winter (1968), in which he played the role of Richard the Lionheart under the direction of Anthony Harvey.

Over the following decades, Anthony Hopkins appeared in a number of significant films. For example, he portrayed the role of Dr. Frederick Treves in the film The Elephant Man (1980) directed by David Lynch, and played Adolf Hitler in the film The Bunker (1981) directed by George Schaefer.

Anthony Hopkins received his most famous role in the early 1990s. After director Jonathan Demme had already offered the part to Gene Hackman, Robert Duvall, Brian Cox and Jeremy Irons, all of whom had turned it down, he managed to convince Anthony Hopkins to accept the role: Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Alongside Jodie Foster, he played the role of a cannibalistic psychiatrist in The Silence of the Lambs (1991).

In 1992, Anthony Hopkins received the Oscar for Best Actor for his role as Dr. Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs (1991). In 2006, he also received a Golden Globe for his lifetime achievement.

Rolf Schult was the German dubbing voice of Anthony Hopkins until the 1990s (including in the film The Silence of the Lambs). Since the early 2000s, Joachim Kerzel has been the regular German voice of Anthony Hopkins.
