Ed Harris

Ed Harris, born November 28, 1950, in Tenafly, New Jersey, is one of Hollywood's most distinctive character actors. The American actor, director, and producer began his career in the 1970s in theater and achieved his breakthrough in cinema in the early 1980s with roles in "Knightriders" (1981) and the science fiction thriller "The Right Stuff" (1983), in which Ed Harris portrayed astronaut John Glenn.

In the following years, Ed Harris established himself as a versatile actor with a preference for complex, often ambivalent characters. His portrayal of TV creator Christof in "The Truman Show" (1998), for which he received an Oscar nomination, remains unforgettable. Also outstanding were his performances in "Apollo 13" (1995) as flight director Gene Kranz, in "The Rock" (1996) as disillusioned General Francis X. Hummel, and in "The Hours" (2002), for which Ed Harris was nominated for an Oscar once again. He also demonstrated his exceptional talent in "A History of Violence" (2005), "Gone Baby Gone" (2007), and the HBO series "Westworld" (2016-2022).
