Alec Guinness

Alec Guinness was born on April 2, 1914, in London and is considered one of the most significant British actors of the 20th century. His career encompassed theatre, film, and television, earning him worldwide recognition.

Guinness began his career in the theatre during the 1930s, working alongside John Gielgud, among others. He achieved his cinematic breakthrough after World War II with the Ealing comedy "Kind Hearts and Coronets" (1949), in which he portrayed eight different roles. This was followed by further successful films such as "The Lavender Hill Mob" (1951) and "The Bridge on the River Kwai" (1957), for which Alec Guinness won the Oscar for Best Actor.

Alec Guinness gained international fame through his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in "Star Wars" (1977) and its two sequels. This portrayal brought him a new generation of fans and an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He played other defining roles in David Lean's masterpieces "Lawrence of Arabia" (1962) and "Doctor Zhivago" (1965). In recognition of his life's work, he was elevated to Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 1980.
