Bob Hoskins

Bob Hoskins was born on 26 October 1942 in Bury St. Edmunds, England, and was one of the most distinctive British character actors of his generation. With his stocky build, rough charm and unmistakable Cockney accent, he created numerous unforgettable roles in film and television.

Bob Hoskins achieved his international breakthrough in 1980 in the British mini-series "Pennies from Heaven", but became famous primarily for his role as George, the gangster boss in "The Long Good Friday" (1980). He reached the peak of his career in 1986 with "Mona Lisa", for which he won the British Academy Film Award and received an Oscar nomination. In the same year, he showed his comedic side in "Super Mario Bros." (1993), but his performance in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" (1988) remains unforgettable, where he excelled as private detective Eddie Valiant alongside cartoon characters.

Bob Hoskins took on further defining roles in films such as "Mermaids" (1990), "Hook" (1991) as Smee alongside Dustin Hoffman and Robin Williams, and in "Nixon" (1995) directed by Oliver Stone. He also demonstrated his versatility in "Unleashed" (2005) and "Mrs. Henderson Presents" (2005). Bob Hoskins passed away on 29 April 2014 in London.
