Lars Mikkelsen was born on May 6, 1964, in Gladsaxe, Denmark, and is an actor. The older brother of Mads Mikkelsen is one of the most distinctive Danish actors of his generation and has made a name for himself internationally.
Mikkelsen began his career in theater and initially established himself in Danish film and television productions. He achieved his international breakthrough with the award-winning series "The Killing" (2007-2012), in which he portrayed politician Troels Hartmann. The series became a worldwide success and brought Lars Mikkelsen international attention. This was followed by further significant roles in prestigious productions. In the BBC series "Sherlock" (2014), he played the charismatic villain Charles Augustus Magnussen, for which he received great acclaim. In the Netflix series "House of Cards" (2013-2017), he appeared as Russian President Viktor Petrov, delivering an impressive performance alongside Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright.
Lars Mikkelsen also demonstrated his versatility in blockbuster productions. In "The Witcher" (from 2021), he portrayed the sorcerer Stregobor, and in the Star Wars universe, he lent his voice to the character Grand Admiral Thrawn in the animated series "Star Wars Rebels" (2014-2018), a role he also embodied in the live-action series "Ahsoka" (2023). Other important work includes appearances in "Ride Upon the Storm" (2017-2018) and various international film productions.
